2 Euro NCAP Advanced Rewards for the New Focus
The New 2011 Ford Focus has earned maximum five-star overall safety ratings with 2 NCAP Advanced Rewards for Ford’s two new inimitable technologies, the Active City Stop and Lane Keeping Aid.
The Focus excelled in other categories including adult and pedestrian safety but amongst these the most notable achievement has to be the maximum five-star crash safety rating earned for child protection in frontal and side impact collisions.
With more than 12,000 both real and virtual crash tests by the Ford Engineers its no wonder the new Focus is exceeding safety standards globally.
Recent successes are also coupled with the fact Ford is the first non-premium manufacturer to receive these coveted rewards, Euro NCAP President, Dr. Andre Seeck said, “Euro NCAP Advanced Rewards recognise safety innovation of the highest level and we are delighted that Ford has shown its commitment to the safety of its vehicles such as the new Focus.”

The first of the award winning technologies is the Active City Stop, it reduces the risk of low speed collisions by monitoring the road in front for stationary traffic and brakes automatically if the system detects a stationary vehicle in its path and a collision is imminent.
As you can see from the Active City Stop video even if the driver remains inactive i.e. does not steer or brake the Focus itself will apply the brakes automatically and reduce the engine torque!
The final award winning piece of technology on the focus is the equally remarkable Lane Keeping Aid, it uses a camera mounted at the top of the windscreen to monitor the road ahead. It performs its Lane Keeping function in 2 ways:
1. If the car drifts towards the lane marking a slight steering action is automatically applied to direct it away from the line towards the centre of the lane
2. When the Lane Keeping Aid detects that the car has drifted over a line, the steering wheel vibrates as a warning to the driver
CEO for Ford of Europe, Stephen Odell said of the Award Winning technologies, “we are proud that we have made these technologies available to so many people in an affordable car like the New Focus.”
